Welcome to the 12 Days Ultimate Highlands Adventure Ride. Our 12 days on the road will take us through some of Vietnam’s wildest and most diverse hidden highland areas. Winding roads thread our course over jungle-covered mountains, along deep gorges and through isolated wooden villages where little has changed for hundreds of years. Local farmers, hill-tribes and excited children will wave us on our way, as we ride deep into Vietnam’s rural, mountainous heart. Many of the roads we ride are almost empty of traffic, and we’ll be seeing a part of Vietnam that very few other travellers have the opportunity to encounter. There’s nothing quite like the sense of freedom and adventure that comes from riding these spectacular roads and meeting the exceptionally hospitable locals along the way. We travel at a relaxed pace with plenty of time for random roadside stops, allowing you to really take everything in and get the most out of this unique experience. Day 2: Nha Trang - Dalat (160km) Description: 10608604_10203553676057694_3481234390769074260_o (1).jpg
Today we ride into the stunning mountains and countryside of the REAL Vietnam! With a little morning traffic, we are soon out of Nha Trang and heading towards the Central Highlands. As we make our way up the mountain pass heading towards the hill top retreat of Dalat, you can enjoy breathtaking views from high up on the mountains, whilst roadside waterfalls glisten in the sun along the way. Famed as the ‘Swiss Alps of Vietnam,’ Dalat holds some very unique European-influenced architecture and has a cooler climate than the surrounding areas. Dalat was a popular respite for commanders and war correspondents alike who were fortunate enough to escape the front lines. Many strategies were devised here, though Dalat was largely untouched by the fighting. However, it was in fact home to the National Military Academy. Dalat today is famed as the city of love; partially owing to its flower growing, it has become a popular holiday retreat for young Vietnamese couples.  Evenings are cool and the local night market is a must-see.

July 4th
Day 3: Dalat - Lak Lake (155km)
Ready to Ride? We’ve got another great journey ahead! Back in the saddle, we ride from Dalat to Lak Lake. Featuring winding back roads that carve through coffee fields and rural farms, this is an outstanding ride. Plenty of stops along the way allow us to try some local coffee and visit an old (and very interesting!) silk-making factory. We will then pass through some small villages, where you will see countless farmers tending crops Vietnamese style! Roads in these parts are often shared by farmers and livestock, children walking to and from school etc. So keep focused!
You‘ll soon get accustomed to the low speed riding in Vietnam. Not only is at necessary for safety, but it also allows you the time to really take in the sheer beauty of this truly incredible country. We will then arrive at our overnight guesthouse, offering quality rooms with aircon & wifi.
Better still, we are located across from Lak Lake and the surrounding rice fields! Not to mention the constant flow of passing elephants.. Did anyone mention a cold beer too?! Local foods in these regions are super fresh and tasty...

Lak Lake is also home to several minority tribes and some traditional villages that are well worth taking the time to look at!

July 5th
Day 4: Lak Lake - Buon Ma Thuot (125km)
Easy start into today: We saddle up and ride into the Dak Nong province, which was the scene of many conflicts and heavy bombing by the US Airforce. Today these regions are farmed coffee plantations. The roads winding through the regions provide not only great riding, but also a true insight of this mighty country. Our lunch stop is at the impressive Dray Sap waterfalls - great for dip while our lunch is prepared! Back out on the road, our ride will have us arriving at our Buon Ma Thuot Hotel around 3pm. Time to relax, take a dip in the pool and sip a cool drink...

July 6th
Day 5: Buon Ma Thuot - Kon Tum (230km)
One of the longer stretches of riding sets off today... and it just keeps getting better! More awesome roads, lush jungle, rubber tree plantations, altitude changes, minority villages and much more! Venturing deep and entering the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, we will show you the famed supply route that carves through the most remote mountain jungles of Vietnam. Used by the Viet Cong to send troops and supplies from North to South throughout the raging war, today the Ho Chi Minh trail is a joy for riders to behold. This incredible road is simply amazing! Over the coming days you will see Vietnam from a truly unique perspective. This is true motorcycling adventure! You'll appreciate a cold beer and a comfortable bed after today's long haul, which we will be more than happy to provide you with!

July 7th
Day 6: Kon Tum - Kham Duc (180km)
This is the proper Ho Chi Minh trail in all it's twisting and undulating glory ! Steeped in history, crucial to the war effort, vital to the life blood of Vietnam, it virtually speaks to you as you negotiate each turn. This is where the bulk of the riding footage from that famous Top Gear special took place so soak it up and enjoy what will be one of the best days of your life!
As many of our riders state, they just can't believe the sheer beauty of these areas and the amazing roads which you simply have to see for yourself! Overnight we will stay at our Hotel in Kam Duc, featuring an in-house kitchen that cooks some great meals. Plenty of cool drinks to be had, as always!

July 8th
Day 7: Kham Duc - A Luoi (210km)
Enjoy a relaxed riding pace with plenty of stops to take in the stunning scenery as we make our way into the countryside, passing many rice fields and remote villages as we carve through the endless twists and turns of the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail.
The HCM Trail was once a strategic supply route during the Vietnam War and the trail system became known as one of the great achievements of military engineering in the 20th century.
This truly amazing road is now home to the very best road touring in Vietnam..! No tourists here, just us and this amazing road! This sparsely-populated region of remote villages and rugged mountains (1.500-8.000FT) is home to triple-canopy jungle, dense primeval rain forests and stunning waterfalls glistening in the sun. We arrive into A Luoi mid afternoon and settle in for a great home-cooked local dinner.

July 9th
Day 8: A Luoi - Khe Sanh (110km)
l always have the Cold-Chisel song ‘Khe Sanh’ humming through my mind on this road... The twisting roads that follow Da Krong River hold views across outstanding scenery. Villagers can be seen taking care of the day’s washing in the river, this place is amazing! I really feel alive, my veins are always filled with ADVENTURE here! Old traditional handmade village huts line the roadside, making this a grand day on so many levels. Vietnam touches your heart in so many ways, rich in history, deep in culture. Feeling at one with my trusty iron horse. Sharing the experience with the VMT crew and like-minded riders is something that will stay deep with you as one your most incredible adventures. This isolated and rarely used section of road passes through majestic scenery close to the Laos border. When we reach our destination of Khe Sanh, we will have a great overnight hotel stay with awesome food, splitting the bill on a hearty meal that will cost just a few dollars.

July 10th
Day 9: Khe Sanh - Hue (160km)
Our journey today has us winding down towards the Hue, a city based right in the centre of Vietnam. This point in the country almost serves as a divide between the North and South. Hue, located on the banks of the Perfume River, was the national capital until 1945. The Imperial Citadel is well known for its historic monuments, which have earned it a place in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Check into our hotel, with each room tastefully decorated with traditional Vietnamese antiques and great views of the surrounding city.

July 11th
Day 10: Hue
A day of rest and/or sightseeing in and around Hue city. The imperial architecture of Hue dates mainly from the 19th century and is famous throughout Vietnam. Citadels, palaces, pagodas and royal tombs fill the city and dot the surrounding countryside. There is so much to see here that it almost blends into atmosphere, the harmonic mixture of old and new in this town is simply astounding to see, with locals living amongst ancient treasures that seem entirely normalised to them. In the evening we’ll host a great celebratory night of fun for our road trip group as we prepare for your final day of riding, having almost completed your Ultimate Highlands Adventure.

July 12th
Day 11: Hue - Hoi An (90km)
Enjoy an awesome breakfast in this UNESCO listed heritage town! Hue is a city that is held close to the hearts of poets, romantics and musicians who keep the old ways relevant against the backdrop of a booming Vietnam. Enjoy the stunning architecture and relics of leaders and eras gone by, as we ride through the city and head out to the stunning coastal town of Hoi An. With its roots dating back to Portuguese traders in the 15th century, Hoi An’s colourful and diverse history is a joy to behold. Time to crack open the throttle along the incredible Hai Van pass! This spot was Clarkson’s favourite stretch on the Top Gear Special, so it’s a fitting way to start winding down this epic adventure!

July 13th
Day 12: Hoi An - Da Nang (80km)
We will conclude our epic 12 day adventure ride with a relaxed journey up to our final destination of Da Nang. Stopping off at a cluster of Marble & Limestone mountains, then a trip to SÆ¡n Trà Mountain (known to American soldiers during the Vietnam War as ‘Monkey Mountain’), we’ve designed this final day to be packed full of wondrous sights! We follow this with a visit to Phap Lam pagoda (where you can see a 67-metre tall statue of the Bodhisattva of Mercy!) and then a peaceful swim session at the famed China Beach. After lunch, we will have some time for a little exploration around the wonderful city of Da Nang, known for its sandy beaches and history as a French colonial port. You can say your goodbyes to the VMT Team over a few drinks in the evening, then enjoy a relaxing night in our post-tour accommodation before your return arrangements the following day. Some customers may wish to stay on a few extra days before heading back to Hanoi or HCMC - advanced booking is recommended!
